Fujifilm GFX 50S
Well that announcement wasn't expected - but we couldn't wipe the smile off our faces when we heard.
Fujifilm pulled out an absolute showstopper at Photokina in Germany with the announcement of a new medium-format camera, the GFX 50S.
It may look quite big but we can confirm it's surprisingly light weight and takes on a lot of the design tonality from the X Series cameras. Naturally the 50S is much deeper than the X Series however when it's packing a 43.8 x 32.9mm 51.4 Megapixel sensor you can understand why. To put the size of this sensor into perspective, many of the current professional cameras have Full Frame senors, the 50S has a sensor that is 1.7x bigger than that and Fujifilm have said that this sensor in particular is a completely new development.
The aspect ratio can be adapted from the default of 4:3 to 3:2, 1:1, 4:5, 6:7 and 6:17, these are all inherent to traditional medium and large format cameras.
The 50S will be available early 2017 along with some new lenses - a 63mm f/2.8 Prime, a GF 32-64mm f/4.0 Wide Angle Zoom Lens and a 120mm f/4 Macro Lens.
